Police officers injured on the job in car crash

A car accident occurred on the highway leading to the Holland Tunnel approach into New York City. This set the scene for a subsequent car crash that injured several police officers. Reports show that responding police officers from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey as well as Jersey City police departments were at the scene of the initial car collision. They were taking care of the accident scene and injured driver when another vehicle lost control and hit a barrier. That vehicle then hit one of the policemen and a police car, causing multiple accident injuries. The pedestrian accident caused one officer to suffer with serious injuries and several other cops suffered injuries as well. It is unclear why the two accidents occurred but specialists explain that distracted drivers often cause secondary collisions like this. They note that drivers often concentrate on the initial accident scene and flashing emergency lights and lose control over their vehicle. This is one of the reasons that many states, including New York, have created “move over laws” that require drivers to move over an extra lane on the highway or roadway when possible. This allows police, EMTs, paramedics and fire fighters a safer work environment. The prevention of workplace accidents and a work injury in these types of environments is challenging but necessary. On the job injuries are usually covered by worker’s compensation insurance. However, these insurance coverages can often lack a fair process or control to patients over their healthcare. Some find it necessary to hire a workers comp lawyer to help them fight for their rights. You can read more about this work injury here.

George Washington Bridge driver suffers head injury from flying debris

New York – A piece of metal went flying through the air and slammed into the windshield of a car, causing a serious head injury to the driver. It is unclear about where exactly the metal debris fell from but it is believed that the metal broke off from or flew out of the back of a dump truck. Falling debris has long been a concern of drivers on busy highways, especially for those travelling behind construction vehicles, dump trucks and garbage trucks that often transport dangerous garbage and loose debris. If the load is not properly contained or tied down, the combination of high speeds, wind and bumpy roads with potholes can be a recipe for disaster. In addition, there is concern that this piece of metal may have broken off of a truck that underwent improper maintenance. However, some feel that this metal object could have been kicked up from the ground after the truck struck a piece of roadside garbage. This dangerous condition requires constant cleaning of garbage and debris from public roadways by state and local government staff to prevent a car crash or injury such as this.

The driver of the car that was hit by the object was rushed from the scene by ambulance to a trauma center. He suffered a severe head injury with possible traumatic brain injury (TBI) according to injury specialists. Doctors will need to perform additional testing, including CAT scan and possible MRI scans to further evaluate the car accident victim’s condition. A TBI can cause mild problems such as a simple concussion with post-concussion symptoms like headaches, dizziness and memory problems. However, more serious cases can include loss of consciousness, vomiting, visual disturbances and even intracranial bleeding. The latter problem of a brain bleed may necessitate emergency neurosurgery. All of these types of TBI can lead to permanent injury and even disability. Serious injuries including a traumatic brain injury in Queens car accident

New York – Two cars collided in a horrific motor vehicle accident (MVA) in Queens, leaving three injury victims. The first vehicle was being driven by an off-duty police officer when the second vehicle broad-sided him at an intersection, according to reports. His car then struck parked cars and slammed into a telephone poll. The poll cracked and then collapsed according to witnesses. The vehicle then caught on fire and fire rescue was dispatched to the accident scene. It is unclear whether or not the cop was wearing a seatbelt, however, he was ejected from the car during the impact. This raised a question of a safety equipment malfunction during the MVA. Emergency first responders explain that they found the injured driver on the street suffering from a traumatic brain injury and neck injury. Spinal injuries in this context present a special difficulty in treating patients with a serious head injury according to doctors. The other two accident victims from the second car suffered less serious injuries. However, they will require additional testing to determine the nature and extent of their wounds. Trauma specialists note that some accident-related injuries can start out as appearing not serious but eventually develop into chronic pain or even permanent disability ones over time. This can especially be true if the wounds are ignored or not picked up on early enough. See this article for additional information regarding this Queens car crash.

Queens bus accident injures passengers

New York – MTA transit officials report that a New York City bus was involved in a bus crash this week. The motor vehicle accident (MVA) occurred when a car collided together with the bus. The force of the car accident caused the bus driver to apparently lose control. The bus jumped the curb and crashed into a wall. Multiple passengers in the bus were thrown about and fell during the collision. Trauma doctors note that this type of mechanism of injury increases the types and severity of injuries that can be suffered during the crash. They note that there are primary, secondary and tertiary impacts that can lead to carious injuries such as spinal injury, head injury with traumatic brain injury, broken bones or fractures and internal organ damage. This latter category can include liver laceration or a spleen laceration with internal bleeding or even a tension pneumothorax that can be life threatening. The other car involved in the car crash had most of the front of the vehicle ripped right off and crushed. Specifics about the injuries suffered by the accident victims are not available at the time of this report. You can see this article for more details about this MVA with injuries.

Multi-vehicle car crash injures several people

New York – Injury victims from several vehicles involved in a car accident were taken to the emergency room in Brooklyn last week. According to witnesses, the driver of one of the cars was speeding and possibly even ran through a red light, causing the collision. The investigation into the exact cause of the motor vehicle accident is ongoing. However, sources say that at least one pedestrian was struck by a car during the series of events that took place during the accident. The pedestrian accident left that victim with multiple injuries, including possible broken bones and spinal injury according to one assessment. The other accident victims were occupants of the vehicles according to police and the extent of their injuries is still unclear. Doctors say that none of the injuries are life threatening but can lead to permanent injuries and disabilities. Further examinations will be necessary to determine further. Trauma specialists say that some injuries can be quite obvious and present themselves immediately following the collision. However, other wounds can take weeks or even months to fully identify. These include herniated disc problems, nerve injury, ligament and tendon damage or even some fractures. In addition, there are the emotional and psychological injuries and trauma of such an accident that can take a good deal of time to develop and treat. Examples of this can include post-traumatic stress disorder and adjustment disorder. See this article shares more about the speeding car accident that possibly ran a red light.

Motorcycle accident in Brooklyn involved improperly licensed rider

New York – Investigators into the cause of a motorcycle collision yesterday have indicated that the motorcycle rider did not hold the proper license and was therefore driving illegally. Police report that the crash involved two cars and the motorcyclist. Apparently, the driver of the motorcycle was driving dangerously, as he was attempting to do stunts, according to witnesses. They note that the dangerous driver was performing reckless maneuvers when his bike slammed into a car. That car then crashed into a second car after he was unable to stop. The motorcyclist was issued a citation and summons to court for his involvement in causing the car accident as well as his actions leading up to the crash. The charges may be based on the combination of being accused of being a reckless driver and not having the correct motorcycle license. The extent of the accident injuries is still unclear. Accident specialists explain that the common injuries for a motorcycle rider differ greatly from those suffered by drivers and occupants of cars. Extensive evaluation and testing is sometimes necessary to discover latent injuries suffered during a car crash. See this article for further information about this motor vehicle accident involving three vehicles.

Driver fleeing from police caused motor vehicle accident with injuries

New York – A driver who refused to pull over for police ran through a stop sign and then crashed into an SUV. This car accident caused the SUV to roll over and injured both the passenger and driver in that vehicle. In addition, the three passengers of the car that struck the SUV also suffered serious crash injuries. Included amongst those passengers were a one-year-old baby and two adults. The driver of that car that was fleeing police didn’t stop there. He apparently pretended that he was just an innocent bystander and left the scene of the accident with injuries. He has been found and arrested by police and brought up on multiple and extensive criminal charges. The injury victims are all being treated and face possible lifelong disabilities as well as pain and suffering. The injuries include broken bones, spinal injuries and internal organ injuries. The possibilities of nerve damage, traumatic brain injury and even wrongful death associated with their injuries remain a possible issues as well, according to a trauma specialist. Truck accident leaves injured victims and one death in the Bronx

New York – Emergency workers responded to a van that rear-ended a truck on the Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx. The van accident left the female driver of the van dead and several other people injured. Friends note that the woman was pregnant at the time of the fatal crash. Two children in the vehicle were passengers in the back and suffered serious injuries. Reports show that construction debris and other scrap metal objects were being transported in the van at the time of the collision. It is believed that the flying debris during the impact is what caused the critical wounds and injuries to the child passengers. One teenage girl suffered a significant traumatic brain injury with bleeding in her brain. She has undergone surgery for this as well as for a broken spine and she remains in a coma. The extent of her spinal injuries are still unclear.

In addition, a front seat passenger of the van suffered injuries and was also taken to the hospital. Doctors say that he has a leg injury and will receive treatment. The truck that was hit from the rear left the truck driver also injured. He was evaluated and given emergency treatment. Investigators were continuing to assess the damage and the cause of the truck crash. Find out more about this rear end collision here.

Limousine crash kills passengers and pedestrians in New York

New York – The driver of a limo that ran through a stop sign is being blamed for the deadly car accident. However, the limousine company is also being investigated for possibly operating unsafe vehicles that may have contributed to the motor vehicle collision. Reports show that the car was speeding about 60 miles per hour when it didn’t stop at a stop sign and crossed straight through the intersection. It then slammed into a parked vehicle as well as several pedestrians in a parking lot. The pedestrian accident killed two of the pedestrian victims who were apparently shopping nearby. In addition, the car crash killed the driver of the limo and all of the 17 passengers in the rear of the vehicle. Unfortunately, none of the passengers in the vehicle were wearing seat belts during the impact. This left a total of 20 accident victims killed in the horrific collision.

Witnesses to the crash noted that it appeared the vehicle’s brakes may have failed. In fact, this is consistent with the fact that the limo company had racked up extensive safety violations, including negligent maintenance issues. At least one of their vehicles failed for not having properly working brakes in the recent past. Family and friends explain that at least one of the passengers in the limo messaged someone prior to the crash about the poor mechanical condition of the car. Investigators noted that the driver of the limo involved in the fatal accident did not have the proper driver’s license for the type of vehicle that he was driving. In addition, it has been noted that the very same driver was involved in a similar accident after he blew through a stop sign about three years ago. In that prior collision, one of the cars rolled over after being hit. Several people were injured at that time, including one with a head injury and another with a back injury. Concerns regarding possible delayed recall of defective car seat

Potentially dangerous defective child car seats were recalled by the manufacturer several months after the company performed its own collision safety tests. Federal investigators have now been examining whether the manufacturer of the seats possibly delayed reporting the defective product and instituting the recall. Guidelines require companies to report safety problems within five days to the appropriate government agency, in this case the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. However, evidence has shown that the business that produced the child restraint system had information several months earlier about the dangerous condition. This was based on safety problems that were evident on quality and safety testing that the company had conducted on the seats during a car accident. Product liability is a responsibility that manufacturers and distributors must take seriously. Concerned parents and safety advocates have voiced concerns regarding the situation, saying that this breech of public trust leaves the public in danger. Some have pointed out that negligent reporting of safety problems must be dealt with harshly. The potential dangers in this case could include head injuries leading to traumatic brain injury, internal organ bleeding, fractures and nerve injury. You can refer to this article for more about the car seat safety product recall.
