Woman suffers traumatic brain injury from falling object

New York – This twenty-three year old woman was walking on a Manhattan sidewalk when she was hit in the head by a falling object. The injured woman was caught by surprise as she walked with a friend during a rain storm. Suddenly, a heavy chair flew off of a high balcony of a nearby residential building in a heavy wind. The falling debris came crashing down on the woman causing a severe head injury with serious intracranial hemorrhage or bleeding. She was rendered unconscious and bystanders called for an ambulance. Paramedics stabilized the injury victim and she was rushed to a hospital’s trauma center to undergo emergency surgery. Doctors were able to save her life and treated her severe neurological injuries along with various other wounds. The woman was hospitalized at Bellevue Hospital and continues to struggle to recover from her disabling injuries. They fear that she may have a permanent disability as a result of physical injuries. However, the neuropsychiatric and neurological injury can also leave her with permanent cognitive problems, a post-traumatic stress disorder as well as an adjustment disorder.

The woman has decided to file a personal injury lawsuit claiming negligence on behalf of the owners and residents of the apartment. The claim of negligence is based on the fact that furniture, loose objects and debris should be removed or secured to a balcony or rooftop before a wind storm can blow it over. It is the responsibility of home owners and building managers to maintain basic safety standards to prevent injury or wrongful death. Construction accident injured worker in Nassau County

New York – A construction worker suffered traumatic amputations of his legs during a recent road construction accident. The injury victim was apparently hit by a falling object that made him fall into a hole during the job site accident. The work site was in the street near an intersection where heavy construction vehicles, including a backhoe, were being used to dig up a trench. The heavy object that fell and severed the hardhat worker’s legs was a metal plate according to witnesses. He then fell approximately 10 feet into a hole. First responders applied tourniquets and tried to control the bleeding. He was treated for shock and rushed to the hospital. Doctors were working on saving the injured man’s life while also trying to save his legs. Workplace safety experts will need to investigate the circumstances of this work injury to determine if proper safety equipment and protocols were in place or if there was even negligence involved. Famous musician injured while working at a Midtown Manhattan concert

New York – The famous rock star musician, Marilyn Manson, was visiting NYC and performing a concert in a large concert ballroom when an object fell and hit him. The injured Manson explained that he suffered a head injury as well as a leg injury during the accident. Organizers say that the injuries occurred when a large, heavy stage prop fell from an unknown height onto the man below. He then fell backward onto the ground and possibly hit his head at that point. There is no indication whether or not Mr. Manson lost consciousness. The prop had been suspended by workers before the show onto a tall metal scaffolding column but then fell over and collapsed during the concert. He suffered broken bones from the falling object, including a fracture of his fibula in his leg, and required surgery. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance and stabilized in the emergency room before being taken to the operating room. Hospital surgeons had to repair the leg fracture with metal hardware, leaving him disabled from the accident and unable to work. Representatives for the musician noted that he will undergo additional medical treatment such as physical therapy and possibly occupational therapy. They hope that he will be able to return to work despite having had to postpone many upcoming concerts. Further details about this fall injury are available here.
