Driver under the influence of drugs crashes head-on into another vehicle

New York – This horrific head-on collision occurred when a speeding driver entered the Queens-Midtown tunnel heading in the wrong direction. The wrong-way accident vehicle slammed into a car coming in the opposite direction, when it couldn’t swerve out of the way in time. A dashcam video of the car accident was taken from the car that was struck by the wrong-way driver. The video shows the car crash and the vehicles colliding and ultimately coming to an abrupt halt. Police indicated that the driver of the car that entered the tunnel in the wrong direction was high on drugs. They believe that he had been using both cocaine and marijuana at the time of the motor vehicle collision. He apparently fled the scene of the accident with injuries. The hit-and-run accident was witnessed and a police officer who had just entered the tunnel stopped and arrested the fleeing man. In addition, that driver was apparently unlicensed and using his father’s vehicle. It is unclear if the father was aware or gave permission to the unlicensed man to use the car. Likewise, it is not certain whether or not the parent knew that his son would be driving while under the influence of drugs. Specifics of the injuries suffered by the car accident victim are not clear. However, trauma doctors note that this type of head-on accident can cause traumatic brain injury, spinal injuries and broken bones as well as internal injuries in the abdomen. Drunk wrong-way driver causes accident on Long Island

New York – Police were called about a woman driving the wrong direction http://www.newsday.com/long-island/nassau/northern-state-wrong-way-crash-caused-by-drunken-driver-cops-say-1.13068722 on the Wantagh State Parkway recently. Unfortunately, they were unable to stop the vehicle before she caused a car crash in a head-on collision with another car. The police investigators believe that the woman was driving while intoxicated, leading to her driving the wrong way onto the highway. The drunk driver was arrested and charged in causing the accident with injuries. The driver of the second car also suffered injuries, including a hand injury, in the accident and required treatment. Trauma specialists note that such an injury can include a broken bone, nerve damage and tendon or ligament wounds. They explain that an accident victim should seek emergency medical evaluation and treatment to prevent more serious complications. Accident reconstruction experts add that a head-on collision such as this can be even more significant, since the opposing forces can increase the severity and likelihood of injury. Fatal accident on New York Thruway involved wrong-way driver

New York – Earlier this morning a car crash occurred on a major highway, killing the drivers of both involved vehicles. According to officials, the driver of a pickup truck was driving the wrong way on the New York State Thruway in Rockland County, when his truck hit an oncoming SUV car. The car collision caused fatal injuries and sent emergency crews racing to the scene of the wrong-way accident. Reports show that the driver of the vehicle that had been driving on the wrong side of the highway was actually a New York City police officer, although he was off-duty at the time of the early morning truck accident. Video footage of the accident scene shows that the 2 vehicles apparently were involved in a head-on collision, causing severe damage to the front seat compartments, mostly on the driver’s side. Trauma specialists note that this type of car crash can be the most serious, involving 2 heavy vehicles that were both travelling at high speeds and hitting each other head-on. They explain that the velocities of the truck and the SUV add together to create a deadly motor vehicle accident. The types and severity of accident injuries are often also much more serious when this type of accident occurs.

Investigators are continuing their evaluation of the crash to determine what caused it. Possibilities include speeding, reckless driving, drug use and drunk driving, especially when the collision includes a wrong-way accident. An accident lawyer says that the at-fault driver, or in this case, the driver’s estate and car insurance company, faces a strong possibility of a wrongful death lawsuit. It is unclear if there were any other victims of the crash or the nature of any injuries. You can see more about the wrong-way collision here.
