Police officers injured in Sunset Park elevator accident

New York – Over twenty New York Police Department (NYPD) and federal law enforcement officers ‎were involved in an elevator collapse accident while at work. The on-the-job accident occurred ‎when the team of police officers and personnel were possibly moving equipment into the building. ‎The elevator apparently suffered an equipment malfunction when it suddenly collapsed down to the ‎basement level. Officials will need to look over maintenance records to determine if negligent ‎maintenance could have contributed to this accident with injuries. Extensive safety devices and ‎protocols are in place to ensure that such an elevator accident doesn’t occur. However, proper upkeep ‎is necessary to ensure that public safety is protected. Elevator accident kills assistant superintendent in Brooklyn

New York – An assistant superintendent building worker was crushed to death after being dragged into some moving elevator equipment. The elevator accident occurred after the maintenance worker was attempting to retrieve something that had fallen down into the elevator shaft. He was caught by the elevator cables as they moved along the elevator car above. Building safety specialists say that safety protocols and mechanisms should have been in place to prevent such a work accident. Some workplace safety advocates have asked why the elevator maintenance room was not properly secured with guards in place to prevent a person from getting caught up in the ropes, gears and motor. Elevator accident leaves injured worker with arm amputation

New York – An elevator repairman was working on a recently installed elevator when a terrible accident occurred, injuring the worker. According to witnesses, the technician was in the middle of repairing the broken down elevator when something came loose. The man began screaming for help and a bystander called 911. Police, fire rescue and emergency medical services units raced to the scene and rescued the injury victim, treating him for an amputated arm and a leg injury. The wounded man was taken in to surgery in an attempt to reattach the severed limb. Trauma specialists explain that many times an amputation can be reattached but the victim can still be left with severe pain and suffering as well as a permanent disability.

An investigation into this case is underway, with building code and work safety officials looking into the cause of the accident. Trip and fall accident in Bronx elevator

New York – A senior citizen in the Bronx tripped and fell in an elevator that had just been repaired the day before. The injury victim suffered a fatal head injury and died of his wounds in the hospital the next day. The man reportedly tripped on his way into the elevator because the elevator floor wasn’t level with the hallway floor. Reports show that the location where the elevator accident occurred is a city public housing apartment building owned and operated by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). The elevator apparently was serviced by workers of NYCHA the day before the slip and fall injury. Tenants of the building noted that they had been complaining about the broken elevator and the dangerous condition that it presented for many years. The repairmen replaced a part and claimed that it was safe for use after their inspection. However, public advocates state that this was obviously not the case. In fact, they point to the fact that after the man was fatally injured, the city inspector noted that the replaced part was a faulty part and likely caused the accident. They believe that the part malfunction caused a trip hazard that was not evident to the victim when the elevator door opened. New York City wall collapsed during deadly construction accident

New York – One workman was killed and two more workers were injured in a construction accident in Brooklyn a couple of weeks ago. The family of the killed worker report that he had often complained about the hazardous condition in and around the work site. The building was undergoing renovations and complaints have arisen surrounding the structural safety prior to the partial building collapse. The specific wall collapsed on top of the three construction workers while they were apparently not properly protected according to accepted safety standards and regulations. The injured victims were extricated by fire fighters and emergency rescuers, then rushed to the emergency room. Unfortunately, one of the workers died of multiple crush wounds with severe internal injuries. Doctors in the hospital explain that they performed all possible procedures but were unable to save his life. The remaining injury victims were treated for various work-related injuries and are expected to survive.

Work accidents in New York cause injuries and concern

New York — Worker safety activists relate that a series of workplace injuries due to accidents have occurred over the past several days. One involved a crane accident that crashed into the roof of a house in a suburban area of Clarkstown. The worker was cutting and clearing a tree and the associated debris from the site when the accident struck. Construction and work safety investigators were looking into why the crane collapsed and fell onto the home. Meanwhile, the workman was being evaluated for accident injuries that may not have been immediately apparent.
