New York City Police accident causes injuries in Brooklyn

New York – Borough Park in Brooklyn was the scene of a New York Police Department (NYPD) car crash involving one of their police cruisers. The police car accident occurred while the police officers were responding to an emergency call for help. Reports show that a second vehicle slammed into the officer’s vehicle during the late evening collision. The police car jumped the curb and then struck two pedestrians and finally hit the storefront of a nearby building. The cause of the on-the-job accident is unclear but specialists note that the officers’ injuries should fall under their worker’s compensation insurance. Workers, especially those at high risk for getting injured at work, are dependent on their worker’s comp insurance provider to help them. Meanwhile, the other injured pedestrian patients in this police accident are possibly covered by a car insurance policy. However, it can sometimes be unclear when it comes to a pedestrian accident. In the case of a pedestrian struck, the injury victim may be denied care from multiple sources. Unfortunately, some injury victims find it difficult to obtain their healthcare services from the insurance companies. Many seek the assistance of a personal injury lawyer or workman’s comp attorney for assistance in getting their injuries cared for and covered. Pedestrian injured in ambulance accident

New York – A police ambulance in Nassau County on Long Island struck and injured a young man in a pedestrian struck accident. The pedestrian accident occurred when the ambulance was making a turn and hit the man who had been crossing the street. Investigators indicated that the crash took place while the ambulance was travelling with lights and sirens to an emergency call. The injury victim was then rushed to the hospital with critical injuries according to doctors. This is, unfortunately, not an uncommon event where an ambulance hits a pedestrian. Another such case took place only a few days earlier with a Fire Department of New York (FDNY) ambulance striking a pedestrian teen crossing the street.

It should be noted that emergency medical technicians and paramedics are trained in the safe operation of their emergency vehicles, including ambulances and first response vehicles. They are supposed to undergo intense training to avoid such catastrophic collisions such as this. Included in the protocols is that the driver must always be aware that they must operate the emergency vehicle in such a manner as to protect others, even when responding to an emergency with lights and sirens. They should be aware that other drivers and pedestrians may not hear, see or be aware of the emergency vehicle until the last moment and must therefore be ready to stop. Despite the emergency nature of their response to an emergency call, there is little that justifies injuring or killing someone else on their way to the call. Due caution is their ultimate responsibility and a crash can sometimes be due to negligence or even reckless driving. Further investigations will be necessary to determine the cause of these specific ambulance collisions. Please read more about the most recent ambulance accident here.

Truck accident kills bicyclist in Manhattan

New York – A bicycle rider was struck and killed in a truck accident in the early morning last month. Police reports note that the accident victim was hit as the truck turned a corner into the man. The bicycle accident sent the victim falling to the ground and suffering with multiple extensive injuries. Officials say that the driver then left the scene of the truck crash but it is unclear whether or not he was aware that he had just struck a pedestrian. If it was, in fact, a hit and run accident, the driver can face even more serious criminal charges for a hit-and-run accident with injuries. Public safety advocates expressed significant concern about this crash and believe it is a case of wrongful death. They note that this same oil truck company has been involved in several previous fatal pedestrian accidents. The drivers were different in each of the prior deadly accidents but the question of proper safety training and negligent maintenance needs full investigation. Patient and ambulance worker injured on the job during assault

New York – Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) often treat assault victims but this is a case of the EMT becoming the injury victim himself after being attacked by a driver. The incident began with an emergency ambulance crew who were treating a sick elderly man when a passing driver became agitated. The driver of the car yelled at and threatened the EMT since the ambulance was blocking the road. The enraged driver then hit the pedestrian EMT while the ambulance worker attempted to move his patient out of the way. Reports show that both the EMT and the patient in the stretcher were injured in the pedestrian accident. Sources say that the worker suffered a shoulder injury while the original sick patient suffered a leg injury with possible leg fracture. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment, including evaluation for broken bones. Police arrested the driver of the car and criminal charges against the man are pending. He is accused of road rage that led to a physical assault. It turns out that the driver of that car was actually a hospital worker himself. He now faces multiple problems, including the criminal court case, the possibility of losing his job at the hospital as well as a civil personal injury lawsuit from the accident victims. Minivan versus pedestrian accident kills one and injured others

New York – Emergency services were called to the scene of a van crash after it jumped the curb and crashed. The pedestrian accident occurred on a street in the Chinatown section of Manhattan and left extensive injuries for at least seven accident victims. Police report that all of the injured victims were pedestrians. One of the men suffered fatal injuries and died soon after he was hit by the minivan. Another two people suffered critical injuries and were rushed by ambulance crews to the hospital. The full nature of their injurie sare still unclear and they will require ongoing evaluation and care according to doctors.

Witnesses to the minivan accident have explained that the driver lost control and slammed into pedestrians on the sidewalk. Investigations are ongoing to determine if any negligence or reckless driving was involved that led to the accident. They note that the driver of the van had backed up down most of the block before veering into a crowd of people on the sidewalk. However, it is not believed that any criminal or deliberate acts took place. You can find out more details about this deadly car crash here.

Limousine crash kills passengers and pedestrians in New York

New York – The driver of a limo that ran through a stop sign is being blamed for the deadly car accident. However, the limousine company is also being investigated for possibly operating unsafe vehicles that may have contributed to the motor vehicle collision. Reports show that the car was speeding about 60 miles per hour when it didn’t stop at a stop sign and crossed straight through the intersection. It then slammed into a parked vehicle as well as several pedestrians in a parking lot. The pedestrian accident killed two of the pedestrian victims who were apparently shopping nearby. In addition, the car crash killed the driver of the limo and all of the 17 passengers in the rear of the vehicle. Unfortunately, none of the passengers in the vehicle were wearing seat belts during the impact. This left a total of 20 accident victims killed in the horrific collision.

Witnesses to the crash noted that it appeared the vehicle’s brakes may have failed. In fact, this is consistent with the fact that the limo company had racked up extensive safety violations, including negligent maintenance issues. At least one of their vehicles failed for not having properly working brakes in the recent past. Family and friends explain that at least one of the passengers in the limo messaged someone prior to the crash about the poor mechanical condition of the car. Investigators noted that the driver of the limo involved in the fatal accident did not have the proper driver’s license for the type of vehicle that he was driving. In addition, it has been noted that the very same driver was involved in a similar accident after he blew through a stop sign about three years ago. In that prior collision, one of the cars rolled over after being hit. Several people were injured at that time, including one with a head injury and another with a back injury. Injured worker from hit-and-run accident on Long Island

New York – A workman who was collecting garbage was hit by a car according to the victim’s report. The driver of the car admits that his vehicle made contact with the worker but he described in as a minor accident. He explains that this was the reason he left the scene of the accident with injuries. Police then looked into the hit-and-run collision and questioned the driver. The driver has placed the blame for the pedestrian accident on the sanitation worker. He noted that the side mirror casing of the car is what hit the victim. The worker who was injured on the job has reported that he suffered a hand injury. Trauma specialists explain that this type of mechanism of collision can lead to various injuries, including broken bones or fractures, ligament and tendon injury or even nerve damage or vascular wounds. Further investigation into both the injuries and liability for the crash is necessary to determine fault and a causal relationship. However, some believe that the driver may have been negligent and that his fleeing the scene of the crash was criminal. A top New York personal injury lawyer notes that the employer most likely is required to carry worker’s compensation insurance. This worker’s comp carrier often must pay for medical care while the victim works out the legal aspect in court. See this article for more about this work injury.

Two children killed, three adults injured in pedestrian crosswalk collision

New York – Brooklyn was the scene of a horrible pedestrian accident that killed a one-year-old baby and a four-year-old child and injured two adult women and a man. Witnesses to the car accident say that a vehicle ran a red light and slammed into a group of pedestrians that was crossing in the middle of a marked crosswalk. The women that were injured in the accident are the mothers of the little children that were killed in the collision. One of those women was pregnant but there’s no indication of injury to the fetus. The adult accident victims suffered various injuries but are listed as stable.

The driver of the car apparently stopped for the red light initially and then sped up, hitting the people as they started crossing the street. Reports show that the female driver has claimed that she suffered a seizure, causing her to lose control of her vehicle. However, it is unclear if there is any evidence to that effect or whether or not she has a history of seizures. According to a New York City accident lawyer, patients who suffer from seizures may be prohibited from driving for exactly this reason. Doctors that treat these patients may actually be required by law to report seizure patients to the Department of Motor Vehicles for further investigation. Complicating matters, police note that the driver of the car has a history of at least 4 prior charges of running a red light. In addition, the intersection where the car crash took place has a significant history of car accidents with injuries. See this article for further details on this Brooklyn accident.

Pedestrian hit by a car, killed in Union Square in New York City crash

New York – A hit-and-run accident left the pedestrian victim dead according to hospital officials. The man was crossing the street within a marked crosswalk but was struck by a vehicle and then dragged down the street. The vehicle, identified as a Jeep, was being driven by an unknown driver in a reckless manner according to witnesses. The driver was speeding and made a quick left turn, hitting the pedestrian and then pulling him under the car. The victim was left with severe injuries and he was rushed to the hospital by ambulance and paramedics. Doctors attempted to resuscitate the injured man to no avail and were forced to pronounce him dead. Investigation into the cause of the pedestrian accident show that the man had just left work when he was crossing the street to head home. The reckless driver fled the scene of the accident despite having caused obvious injuries according to evidence from the scene. Police have located the vehicle but are still looking for the hit-and-run driver. Investigators believe that the driver may live in Brooklyn. They note that he was driving a rental car. The driver will likely face a slew of charges and lawsuits, both criminal and civil. He may face a wrongful death lawsuit when located but an accident attorney explained that the owner and insurer of the Jeep Renegade may also be included in any lawsuits. Police arrest Queens man after pedestrian accident with injuries

New York – The driver in a hit-and-run accident has been arrested by police nine months after the crash. Investigators have spent months looking into the collision that had occurred in December in West Hempstead, Long Island. They now believe that they have the driver in custody after he allegedly fled the scene of the car accident. The injury victim during the car crash was a senior citizen pedestrian who was crossing the street. He suffered serious wounds, including a head injury with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and a hip injury with possible broken bones. The forces involved in this type of accident can be quite severe on the human body according to experts. They note that there are several impacts, including the initial collision when the vehicle hits the pedestrian, again when the victim’s body falls and hits the ground and then the internal organs strike the inside of the body. Ultimately, this can lead to significant injuries, disability and even death. A trauma specialist explains that when the brain hits into the inside of the skull, it can cause a concussion with serious long-term effects. The victim in this case was hospitalized in the ICU for an extended period of time according to hospital officials.

Reports show that the driver that caused the collision was driving a white pick-up truck and was possibly speeding at the time. He kept driving and left the injured pedestrian on the road at the time. The alleged hit-and-run driver now faces criminal charges but may also face a civil personal injury lawsuit from the pedestrian accident victim. Check out this article for a video and more details about this truck accident.
