Truck accident kills bicyclist in Manhattan

New York – A bicycle rider was struck and killed in a truck accident in the early morning last month. Police reports note that the accident victim was hit as the truck turned a corner into the man. The bicycle accident sent the victim falling to the ground and suffering with multiple extensive injuries. Officials say that the driver then left the scene of the truck crash but it is unclear whether or not he was aware that he had just struck a pedestrian. If it was, in fact, a hit and run accident, the driver can face even more serious criminal charges for a hit-and-run accident with injuries. Public safety advocates expressed significant concern about this crash and believe it is a case of wrongful death. They note that this same oil truck company has been involved in several previous fatal pedestrian accidents. The drivers were different in each of the prior deadly accidents but the question of proper safety training and negligent maintenance needs full investigation. School bus accident leaves multiple injured victims

New York – A school bus crash in the Bronx left at least 18 accident victims. Witnesses report that a minivan broadsided the bus for an unknown reason, setting off a series of subsequent collisions. Reports show that the van accident was apparently caused by an unlicensed driver who hit the bus, possibly while speeding. One report noted that the driver of the vehicle that struck the bus may have ran a red light. Meanwhile, the initial crash made the bus driver lose control of his vehicle and sent the bus slamming into several other cars. The multi vehicle crash sent many of the injured teenagers to the hospital for evaluation. The extent of their wounds is unclear but a trauma specialist noted that some of the injuries may be latent and may require long-term evaluation and treatment. This can include joint injuries such as a shoulder injury or knee injury as well and neck and back pain. Crashes involving such a large and heavy vehicle such as a bus can cause more significant injury. However, sometimes even more important is that an accident victim may not have a seatbelt on during the crash. In fact, some buses don’t even have properly functioning seatbelts due to manufacturing and safety issues as well as improper maintenance. See this article for more details about the Bronx bus accident.

Minivan versus pedestrian accident kills one and injured others

New York – Emergency services were called to the scene of a van crash after it jumped the curb and crashed. The pedestrian accident occurred on a street in the Chinatown section of Manhattan and left extensive injuries for at least seven accident victims. Police report that all of the injured victims were pedestrians. One of the men suffered fatal injuries and died soon after he was hit by the minivan. Another two people suffered critical injuries and were rushed by ambulance crews to the hospital. The full nature of their injurie sare still unclear and they will require ongoing evaluation and care according to doctors.

Witnesses to the minivan accident have explained that the driver lost control and slammed into pedestrians on the sidewalk. Investigations are ongoing to determine if any negligence or reckless driving was involved that led to the accident. They note that the driver of the van had backed up down most of the block before veering into a crowd of people on the sidewalk. However, it is not believed that any criminal or deliberate acts took place. You can find out more details about this deadly car crash here.

Limousine crash kills passengers and pedestrians in New York

New York – The driver of a limo that ran through a stop sign is being blamed for the deadly car accident. However, the limousine company is also being investigated for possibly operating unsafe vehicles that may have contributed to the motor vehicle collision. Reports show that the car was speeding about 60 miles per hour when it didn’t stop at a stop sign and crossed straight through the intersection. It then slammed into a parked vehicle as well as several pedestrians in a parking lot. The pedestrian accident killed two of the pedestrian victims who were apparently shopping nearby. In addition, the car crash killed the driver of the limo and all of the 17 passengers in the rear of the vehicle. Unfortunately, none of the passengers in the vehicle were wearing seat belts during the impact. This left a total of 20 accident victims killed in the horrific collision.

Witnesses to the crash noted that it appeared the vehicle’s brakes may have failed. In fact, this is consistent with the fact that the limo company had racked up extensive safety violations, including negligent maintenance issues. At least one of their vehicles failed for not having properly working brakes in the recent past. Family and friends explain that at least one of the passengers in the limo messaged someone prior to the crash about the poor mechanical condition of the car. Investigators noted that the driver of the limo involved in the fatal accident did not have the proper driver’s license for the type of vehicle that he was driving. In addition, it has been noted that the very same driver was involved in a similar accident after he blew through a stop sign about three years ago. In that prior collision, one of the cars rolled over after being hit. Several people were injured at that time, including one with a head injury and another with a back injury. Deadly drag racing car crash blamed on drunk drivers

New York – Two car accident victims were killed last week on the Nassau Expressway near the border between Long Island and Queens. Five other victims were injured in the highway accident according to police reports. The two victims that were killed were a recently engaged couple that were driving home when they were hit. The collision caused their car to burst into flames and the trapped couple died in the fire. Emergency responders explained that the multi-vehicle car accident left tremendous amounts of damage and injuries ranging from broken bones to spinal injuries to critical injuries. Investigators into the cause of the fatal collision have noted several pieces of evidence that point to reckless driving, drag racing and even drunk driving. Police have arrested and charged two of the people involved in the crash. They believe that the cause of the accident was well more than just carelessness or even negligence. Prosecutors believe that the criminal actions of two of the drivers are what caused the motor vehicle accident. They believe that two of the vehicles were drag racing and lost control, slamming into the other cars and causing a chain reaction. The at-fault drivers will face criminal charges but can also face personal injury lawsuits as well as wrongful death lawsuits. See this article for more about the drunk driving accident.

New York-bound train accident leads to massive derailment

Officials from New Jersey Transit reported that a CSX freight train derailed on its way toward New York this past week. The train was 141 cars long and travelling an unknown speed when the crash occurred, derailing some 21 of the train cars. If the train was speeding or there was an equipment failure it may explain why it derailed. Emergency responders rushed to the accident scene expecting countless injuries. However, responders explain that the train was luckily empty. The only accident victims were the train engineer and conductor, both of which did not require emergency treatment according to reports. Accident specialists note that some accident injuries don’t appear immediately and the two workers are advised to be evaluated by their doctors. They explain that some wounds, such as neck and back injuries due to bulging or herniated disc, may show themselves over the days following this type of crash.

An unrelated train accident in Valhalla, Westchester left a teenager dead, according to police. The 15-year-old girl was hit by the train while she was walking on the train tracks. That accident is thought to be a suicide but investigators are continuing to look into how she was able to get onto the tracks. In addition, they are investigating whether all safety precautions were being followed on the train as well as in the area of the dangerous railroad crossing. You can see more about that deadly accident here.

Stolen car involved in multiple vehicle car crash in Brooklyn

New York – The Belt Parkway in Brooklyn was the scene of a serious car accident involving three vehicles this week. Police believe that the collision began with a stolen SUV speeding down the highway without its headlights on, being driven by the car thief. The thief stole the vehicle in Crown Heights and then drove it recklessly through the city streets until he rear-ended another SUV. That SUV accident didn’t stop the dangerous driver, who fled the scene of the accident and then hit another car. The man then fled the scene of that second collision and eventually hit the highway divider and caused a roll-over accident. Eventually he jumped out of the damaged vehicle and ran away on foot, according to investigators. In his wake, the reckless driving car thief left eight injured accident victims, who were all taken to various New York hospitals. The injuries ranged from minor to critical injuries, reportedly including severe internal injuries and possibly a head injury from the crash. At least three of the injured passengers were children according to officials. Additional investigation is needed to find the hit-and-run driver who apparently stole the vehicle after a woman had left it unlocked in front of her apartment building. Police also explained that the woman had rented the car from someone else in New Jersey. A Manhattan accident specialist attorney https://morrisonwagner.com/about-us/ noted that some of the liability for the accident may fall on the woman who left the SUV unlocked, as a possible act of negligence that led to the dangerous situation. In addition, the owner of the vehicle may also be held responsible. In the meantime, police are looking for the driver of the SUV that caused the multi-vehicle crash. See this article for further details about this SUV accident.

State fair ride malfunctions causing injuries and one death

At a time when summer fairs are most popular for families, a tragic accident occurred when an amusement park ride malfunctioned according to reports in the New York Daily News. Video footage of the event showed that the seat of a ride called the “Fire Ball” broke and disconnected from the main pendulum. This sent ride accident victims crashing down to the ground, causing various degrees of injuries to seven people. Another man was killed in the accident after apparently being ejected from the machine and thrown into the air. Public safety experts note that the ride in question had been inspected several years ago for possible cracks and other dangers, at the request of the manufacturer. At that time, the manufacturer reported that there were concerns regarding a welding failure that could cause cracking and deadly malfunctions. However, it was unclear whether the ride had undergone more recent safety inspections to that degree to ensure rider safety. Advocates explain that cursory inspections are sometimes the only thing done before allowing unsuspecting fun-seekers from riding potentially dangerous rides. They say that regular maintenance is crucial as well as in-depth evaluations of all aspects of the equipment to avoid accidents and injuries. Some owners and operators avoid the high costs involved and negligent maintenance can sometimes be the result. This negligence is most concerning when dealing with equipment such as these carnival rides that move fast and high and often include high impact forces. This ride would swing people up to 40 feet in the air as it twisted and turned and then swung back and forth. Detailed evaluation and fixing of broken or deteriorated parts is essential given the heavy use and potential for harm involved. Drunk driver blamed for fatal car crash in Queens

New York – Police investigators from the NYPD have determined that an intoxicated driver caused the four car accident on the Grand Central Parkway this past Sunday. The tragic crash began when the driver of an SUV, apparently drunk, hit a second SUV truck causing a series of collisions. Several of the vehicles rolled over during the accident and 2 victims were killed, including a 34-year-old man and a teenager. Several other accident victims suffered various injuries, including at least one head injury and broken bones. Police say that reckless driving contributed to the initial crash and the driver of that first vehicle was charged with multiple driving and safety violations.

Besides for the criminal charges that the man faces, a Manhattan accident lawyer specialist explains that the intoxicated driver can face several civil lawsuits for causing the collision. These include wrongful death lawsuits by the family of the victims who were killed as well as personal injury lawsuits by the injured drunk driving accident victims. If you or someone you know has been involved in an accident, you have the right to speak to an injury attorney to discuss your case. Woman struck and injured by porch furniture blown down in the wind in Manhattan

New York – A heavy wooden-based hammock fell approximately five stories off of a Manhattan apartment building porch to the street below. The accident occurred last week during a rain storm that produced heavy winds, apparently throwing the piece of furniture over the guardrail and crashing down onto a pedestrian below. The female accident victim, a tourist visiting New York City, suffered severe injuries during the accident and subsequently was taken to a hospital. Witnesses to the fall and crash explain that the victim suffered a head injury and emergency department doctors were evaluating her for additional injuries. This type of pedestrian accident, while rare, is not unheard of. In fact, it is for this very reason that laws and regulations are in place in New York to properly secure deck and patio furniture, especially during heavy wind storms. Investigators are looking into the specifics of this case to determine whether or not the hammock was secured. However, a top accident attorney noted that further investigation should be undertaken to determine if any negligence was involved that may have contributed to this injury. Check out this site for more details on this fall accident.
